Avoid mistakes

Common BAS mistakes

Spot frequent reporting errors before you prepare your next statement. · 8 min read

Using net rather than gross sales

Platform or merchant fees should not automatically reduce total sales. Record gross income and the eligible fee separately.

Claiming GST where none applies

Wages, superannuation, loan principal and many bank charges do not automatically create GST credits. Review the invoice and GST treatment.

Mixing capital and non-capital purchases

Capital acquisitions generally belong at G10, while ordinary operating purchases generally belong at G11.
